ADULT BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU PROGRAM
Welcome to the Gracie Barra Katy Adult Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Program!
At Gracie Barra Katy our primary mission is for BJJ students to understand and learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu through an exciting process that combines instruction, observation, practice, appropriate feedback, live training and competition.
As our student, you can expect results that go well beyond gains in strength, flexibility, fitness or self-defense skills. By remaining truthful to the lessons learned in practice and applying them off the mats, Gracie Barra students experience an overall improvement on their focus, energy and general well-being.
Here is a complete breakdown of all of our Adult Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes and a complete schedule.
Fundamentals Class:
The Fundamentals Program is designed for students with no previous experience and is the foundation for all of our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes. Students attending this class can expect a thorough warm up, self-defense techniques, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu techniques, and live training. This class is an excellent place to build physical fitness and develop your Brazilian Jiu Jitsu foundation in an extremely positive environment.
All Levels:
The All levels class uses the techniques and knowledge learned in the Fundamentals class and begins to combine them into a more integrated and complete strategic martial arts system. Students can also expect to participate in more live training in the All Levels Class. Make no mistake, this class is designed for use in conjunction with the Fundamentals Classes. If you desire to develop a strong functional BJJ game, nothing can replace solid BJJ fundamentals.
No Gi:
No Gi literally means "without the uniform". This class is designed and taught similar to the All Levels class, only it includes the variations and technical details required when the uniform in not present. Typically everything is very similar when training Jiu Jitsu without the uniform, however No Gi is known for being a faster and more loosely played form of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Drills:
Drills Class is taught and designed by Professor Alex Cisne. This class centers around an emphasis on repetitive practice of a specific technique or series of related techniques. Repetition provides the ability to refine your techniques until they become intuitive and in so doing can be executed with lightening speed and functional profiency. After drilling each day’s specific techniques, students will participate in specific and situational training to help illuminate even more knowledge on the specific subject area of the class.
Live Training:
Live Training is another name in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu world for "rolling or sparring". This class gives students a supervised environment to continue training the techniques learned at a live action pace. This fluid style of training is what makes Brazilian Jiu Jitsu extremely effective as a “Real World” functional self-defense martial art. There is no substitute for safely executing the techniques against a fully resisting opponent.
Advanced Class:
Advanced Class participation requires at least three stripes on your white belt. Although students will have the opportunity to learn and practice much more advanced techniques, the core basis for advanced class is learning to apply fundamental techniques in an advanced strategic format. Drilling techniques in combinations is a very common and effective learning process for our advanced students. Beyond new technique and drilling, there is also a higher emphasis on situation-specific training, take-down training, and live training, all of which promote a more effective offense and the ability to effectively adjust and modify one’s defense to meet any offensive threat. If one considers Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as a form of "3D Chess" then Advanced Classes will provide you with the knowledge, refined techniques, and strategies to successfully compete on the National and International level.
