GBK’s Women Only - BJJ Gi and No-Gi classes are based on the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger, heavier opponent by using leverage and weight distribution, taking the fight to the ground, and using a variety of joint locks, chokeholds, and submissions to defeat them.
BJJ training can be used for sport grappling, as well as in self-defense situations. It is one of the safest full contact martial arts for practitioners. Sparring, commonly referred to as "rolling”, and live drilling play a major role in training and the student’s development.
BJJ is also an efficient method of promoting physical fitness through incremental development of core strength, core stability, flexibility, and balance. It is instrumental in building one’s character and eventually as a way of life. Submissions, sparring, and live drilling comprise the most essential parts of the training regime.
